One of the things that make the Church true for me is the fact that we have a living Prophet. I believe in modern day Prophets and this New Testament Class has given me the opportunity to study the Prophet Paul. Below are lists of what I think he was trying to tell the people to improve on and 3 goals that I have made to improve my own life.
1 Thessalonians
3:12-13
To increase and abound in love towards another.
Make our hearts unblameable in the holiness of God.
2 Thessalonians
4:1-12
Abstain from fornication,
Be in control of our own bodies, (not to lust)
Be honest with our fellow men in all things.
Love one another,
Study
Work with our own hands.
1 Thessalonians
5:1-22
To be sober and keep watch,
To put on the armor of God. (breastplate of faith and love,
and the helmet of hope for salvation.)
Don’t be angry/violent be patient.
Comfort one another and assemble together.
Comfort the feebleminded, support the weak and be patient.
Rejoice, pray, listen to the sprit,
Prove all things (work)
Abstain from the appearance of evil.
2 Thessalonians 3:
1-6, 11.
Pray
Direct your love to God
Do What God commands
Be Patient
Be organized
My 3 Goals.
1 Thessalonians 5:
11- Wherefore comfort yourselves together and edify one another, even as also
ye do. To me Paul is saying that we
will find peace and comfort by being together. I recently moved into a new area
away from family. I would like to be more involved in my ward Family. By doing
this not only do I hope to find comfort in others by having the feeling of
unity but also I hope to be able to help edify others because I know them and
their needs. I will do this by offering
friendships, inviting people over, volunteer to sign up for things and by
attending ward activities.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4.
(3)“ye should abstain from fornication (4) That every one of you should know
how to posses his vessel in sanctification and honor. Normally when I hear
the word fornication I think of adultery and the law of chastity. These are not
areas in my life that I struggle in but I do struggle with jealousies. I forget
to count my own blessing and look to what others have. I would like to keep my
“eyes” where they belong and see what I have in my own life. That way I am more
in control of my emotions and body. So
my goal is to not let Satan park in my driveway and to keep my thoughts happy
and thankful versus jealous and bitter. I
will share my finding with my husband and right my blessing down for my posterity.
1 Thessalonians 5:22
Abstain from the appearance of evil. As a youth I never attended parties where I knew there would be drinking because, even if I
didn’t drink, I didn’t want to give the appearance of evil. I am no longer a
youth but am now a Mother. I could not get this attribute out of my head and as
I was pondering it I decided that I need to work on being less sarcastic
towards my kids. I need to be genie when I say thank you, or good job because
they are trying to make effort to help me. While their efforts are not always helpful they are learning.
I want them to know of the virtue gratitude and my sarcasm is only giving them
a false appearance of good because they don’t understand. That is why I would
like to be more genuine.
